Four Pillars of a Great Career

I noticed a news item this week that said some Public Servants are earning more than the Prime Minister. Where once the salaries were low, many are now paid more than $300.000 per year.

If you are ambitious and want to own a home in a major city, it is important to not only plan your career path, but to invest in your career starting with the right degree.

1.           Education

2.           Career Coaching

3.           Quality Supervision

4.           Networking

  • Education, this should include a post graduate degree in your area of choice. Choose wisely, as you will have a student loan debt to be repaid as fast as possible.
  • Career Coach, if you are having difficulties following your career path you will need a Mentor. Set some goals and ask your Career Coach to help you to move towards them. At times, we all get stuck, so it is important to get help.
  • Quality Supervision, many professions aligned with health, Psychology, Nursing, General Practice require the practitioner to have regular paid supervision. This is really valuable and will progress your career. Being in a supervision group allows you to be with others who share your values and level of education. Supervision should be ongoing.
  • Strong Networking Skills, attend conferences regularly and network as much as possible. Present a paper on your subject and have it published. Networking enables you to meet people whose values align with yours. It also helps you to be noticed by the right people who will ultimately help to progress your career.
