• Empathy, in order to help others, coaches need to build a caring relationship and a have a strong desire for their client to do well. Without empathy it is impossible to be a good coach.
• Motivation, a drive to achieve through goal setting is essential.
• Influence and honesty, a good coach speaks plainly and does not skirt around the issues while guiding you to succeed.
• Organizational Ability, strategically planning your success through a strong understanding of the networks involved.
• Emotional Intelligence, understanding how you are feeling and how it effects your decision making especially when assessing the impact on others.
• Flexibility, switch strategy as needed to fit the changing dynamic.
• Common Sense, using basic good business sense in defining strategic direction for each client based on their needs.
• Positive Outlook, Optimism is important when hoping to achieve personal growth.


A coach with all of the above abilities will achieve the best result for you, and having a high IQ does not always mean that the coach has what you are looking for. To find the right coach, look for a clear communicator, who can give you straightforward instructions and helps you to be your best self.
A good coach takes you at face value, and is never judgmental.
